My friend and I went looking today around the UW area, and all we could find was some Amanitas. After researching, we both ate a cap a peice and nothing happened. 3 hours later, I’m wondering… are there any REAL magic mushrooms in the area anyone knows about? I live in Downtown Seattle, so anywhere I can reach on foot is helpful.

You are out of luck. I does not naturally grow in the SF area.
Psilocybe cubensis is sometimes found growing wild in the South, generally below the 35th parallel in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas.
It is also found in Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guadalupe, Martinique, Puerto Rico, Trinidad, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, French Guiana, Peru, Cambodia, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Australia, Tasmania, New Zealand and Fiji.
Be careful if you go looking for wild mushrooms in the Bay area — as there a lot of indigenous [poison] varieties.

Yes, you can probably find Psilocybe in your area. However if you collect the wrong kinds of mushrooms you could become a patient in an intensive care unit and in need of a liver transplant! Identification of mushrooms is not a simple thing! It often requires the examination of the spores using a microscope.
Best bet is don’t go collecting mushrooms. Incorrect identification could make you the body in the casket in a funeral home!
